We need a wagers corner on the blog page so we can post our predictions prior to each tournament.

is it just me or is the squash pei web page down?

  • 4. aaron coffin  |  November 29, 2006 at 10:48 pm

    A new Haiku….

    Derek Lawther lost
Will he ever leave mens’ B
    Ryan Garrett won

    lmao

  • 5. aaron coffin  |  November 29, 2006 at 10:50 pm

Oh, and nobody needs to tell me that I havent beat Derek yet…

    I just couldnt resist.

  • 6. Scotty G  |  November 30, 2006 at 9:06 am

Nice work Aaron. Derek once had a leg up to A after beating me too and I just keep waiting for the day that I can even the score. For those of you doing the math, it was the Rust Remover 1996.

  • 7. Derek Lawther  |  December 5, 2006 at 10:16 am

Nice one Aaron!…..I will cook something up special for you later……oh….and Scotty….well done…..you remembered that it was the 1996 Rust Remover….hummm….to remember that far back obviously means you have continued to be tortured by the experience…..oh….and for the record…..no leg up from that win in 1996…..not enough in the draw…..

  • 8. Scotty G  |  December 6, 2006 at 12:14 pm

Doesn’t bother me at all Derek. I just remember it because our match was merely a stepping stone that I learned from before winning the next two consecutive tournaments to get both my legs in A.

  • 9. Danielle M  |  December 7, 2006 at 11:42 am

okay boys… lets not get frisky!

    Hello:

Just a suggestion from a new member and new resident. It seems like Squash PEI is all about tournaments and that appears to be its only function? I’m sure that this works for many, but a club for any sport, in my opinion, should be more than just providing tournaments. Several clubs that I have been involved in have provided skills training, social evenings (not tied to events), etc. Personally, tournament play isn’t much of an interest of mine, though recreational ladders, socials and skills clinics are.

    Just my two cents.

    JP

  • 11. Cyn  |  January 8, 2007 at 5:22 pm

You are right Jason. In the past Squash PEI has focused a great deal of their energy on tournaments. This has been something many of the members have recognized and wanted change over the the past couple of years.

Some of the things the organization has been working hard to make happen are things like clinics and encouraging the clubs to initiate ladder leagues and what not.

Here are just some of the programs in place at a couple of the clubs in Charlottetown. Summerside, Mill River and ontague has drop in nights as well.

    Spa
    Monday – Men’s A/B league play.
    Wednesday – Men’s C/D round robin.
    Thursday – Women’s round robin.
    Saturday – Junior develpoment.

    UPEI
    Monday – Women’s Novice Clinic
    Monday – Women’s C/D round robin
    Monday – Women’s A/B round robin
Tuesday – drop in round robin
Thursday – drop in round robin
Saturday – mini squash (8-10 years old)
Sunday – drop in round robin

    Re the socials:
We don’t organize many socials and perhaps we should. We probably missed a good opportunity to have a Xmas social and didn’t…so we definitely should keep this in mind. Thanks for the suggestion.

There are some other clinic oriented ideas Squash PEI is currently working on with Squash Canada with the hopes of having something in place within the next year.

Thanks for your 2 cents (although I think it’s worth more)

  • 12. Scotty G  |  January 10, 2007 at 12:21 pm

I was just looking at the tournament schedule and noticed that the Jr. Fundraiser location is still listed as TBA. I would like to suggest to host the tourny at the courts in Summerside which would give them the opportunity to host a full tournament after doing a great job on the small draw of the Summerside Open back in September. There are quite a few names of players on the wall and I’m sure it would help the growth and future of the sport if we were to try another tournament there now that everybody is back in the main swing of things. It would also be a good experience for the Jrs. to play on as many different courts as possible before heading off to the Canada Games.

  • 13. MAX  |  January 12, 2007 at 2:36 pm

Good thoughts for our Squash PEI Team!
They deserve our support and will represent the sandpile (PEI)very well.
EVERYONE BACK HOME WISHES YOU WELL!!! Go Scott, Mike and Peter
p.s. thanks to the Toronto connection who will take right good care of our fellas.
Thanks Jo, your the best. just remember to return them after the weekend!

  • 14. squashpei  |  January 30, 2007 at 6:25 pm

I agree Scott. Summerside would be a great venue for the Junior Fundraiser.

  • 15. Peter T Webb  |  April 3, 2007 at 10:55 am

Well, it’s been a while since I saw either Scott or Mike out at the ol’ A Plex. Running scared I suspect, In fact the last time we were out, Scott was so impressed and intimidated I might add, he wouldn’t even step in the court with me. Shameful for the so called number 1 ranked player. Anyways I’ll be out tonight If anyone wants a game

  • 16. Gretta  |  April 3, 2007 at 2:45 pm

I would like to go to bat on Peter T Webb’s last comment. It seems that his fast finger picking banjo playing style has gone to his head and I regret to say that I can no longer let his ranting continue. Even if the #1 ranked player was intimidated by you (which I strongly doubt) he’s ranked high enough in my facebook and I know you’ll get your comuppins.

  • 17. Scotty G  |  April 4, 2007 at 10:37 am

Well ol’ Pete boy. I appreciate you letting me beat up on you last night, you know, before you get beat up even worse in Edmonton. Which brings me to a scenario…let’s say you were by chance playing squash with Mr. Faulker and you miraculously repeated the skid boast that you performed once last night…do you suppose he’d feel it? or would you bother to ask him?

  • 18. Scotty G  |  April 27, 2007 at 8:28 am

The season is all but wound up now and it seems that after being a no show in Court 1, Peter T Webb’s backbone appears as solid as the spaghetti noodles he was slinging last night for supper.

  • 19. Peter T Webb  |  April 27, 2007 at 10:18 am

Scott, you shouldn’t be condemning me for standing you up last night, you should be thanking me for not beating you back to the stone age. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying a player of your caliber doesn’t deserve my time, but let’s face it, you’re no Jeff Evans.

  • 20. Scotty G  |  April 27, 2007 at 3:44 pm

Oh, Jeez. If Jeff Evans would have been there, I wouldn’t have noticed you weren’t there at all. I mean with all the laughing at the stories and jokes he’d be telling and not to mention I’d have never seen you because I’d be in awe of him.

  • 21. Peter T Webb  |  May 15, 2007 at 11:08 am

Well Folks, I just wanted to write again thanking my fans for the support over this last year, and truly it was touching to be the first athlete recognized at the West Prince Sports Council Annual Banquet last night, the who’s who of West Prince athletes were there, and for some reason Scott gamble was there too, go figure. Apparently they recognized him as a top athlete at some point but it was so far down the list I couldn’t stay. It was a great night and was an honour to be the first athlete recognized and so far far ahead of Scott as one of the most beloved squash players around, my thanks to Krista at the West Prince Sports Council

  • 22. IN AWE  |  May 15, 2007 at 12:19 pm

Peter, what can I say, other than you are certainly a role model that many young aspiring squash players can look up to and hope to emulate. Recognition from the West Prince Sports Council is only the beginning of bigger and better things to come for you and your career. Captain of the PEI Team at the Nationals this year, the sky is the limit for next year. So, from all your adoring fans – congratulations – you done good !!

  • 23. Scotty G  |  May 15, 2007 at 1:52 pm

Well Peter, going first certainly should be an honour but I had to explain to them how if they left you until the last that there was a good chance you wouldn’t be there. I mean I wasn’t sure if your reputation of not finishing would apply to sitting through a formal type meeting. Irregardless, other than your lengthy standing performance you will otherwise be forgotten by all in attendance last night however they will continue to be impressed by what she told them about me. All in all it’s still good to see that you have fans IN AWE all accross this great country Pete but remember, no matter how quickly they mention your name, you’ll always come behind Jeff.

  • 24. Peter T Webb  |  May 16, 2007 at 1:05 pm

Well to clarify, Elmer, unlike the portrait you so shabbily scribbled out, I was not standing stupified like some troglodite waffling from intoxication. I had to remain standing for the duration of the applause, and I’m not sure how many minutes exactly, but it would have been rude of me to sit down during the extended round of applause.

  • 25. Scotty G  |  May 16, 2007 at 3:37 pm

Applause??? Applause??? My hearing must be fading as bad as Mikey B’s hairline because all I heard was snickering and shrewd comments…well that is until you left the room…then it was full out laughter while people pointed at the door that you walked out.

  • 26. Mikey B  |  May 17, 2007 at 2:59 pm

Gamble i didnt realize you were jelous of my hair as well as my squash play (wow) , i realize your getting older and your hair is gone, but so is your game talking about someone on the web log, your game is in fact getting old you now realize you cannot out perform the younger Mikey B so all you have left is talking trash on the weblog VERY dissapointing.

  • 27. Scotty G  |  May 24, 2007 at 6:58 pm

Regardless of how impressed you are “Mikey B”, I would like to express my disappointment that you were unable to make up your own name to use on here. Even the real Mikey B is more of a man and less of a rambler than to shoot off the way you did about hair loss, age and trash talk. Why if I were Mikey B and I was able to schedule around his hair plug implant appointment., I’d be hunting you down like the dog you are and reminding you that you’ll never be Mikey B.

  • 28. Mike Buchanan  |  May 26, 2007 at 5:08 pm

First of all i dont know what all that rambling was about “the real Mikey B” i better put my name as Mike Buchanan and spell it out for you because the doctor must of put a hair plug in a little to far i think it hit your brain and messed up your words . Scotty G dont you remember you said you had the whole year booked off to correct your hair loss. As far as your hunting skills you better stick to that beacause rumour has it your squash game is deminishing.

  • 29. Peter T Webb  |  May 28, 2007 at 10:51 am

Listen guys, I’m getting the hair cut in a few days, if either of you guys want to come and sweep up what I don’t need thats cool with me, and to the fans of Fabio out there that say Fabio is nothing without the hair, well they’re forgetting the rest of the complete package.

  • 30. Scotty G  |  May 30, 2007 at 8:20 am

Fabio may be a self proclaimed “total package” and I for one am happy to see that ol’ Pete Boy finally found an ending. I mean it was getting boring playing squash with him when you knew you could let him get an 8-0 lead because everybody knows he just can’t finish.

  • 31. Mr. Buchanan  |  May 31, 2007 at 10:57 am

Hello, my name is Mr. Buchanan. I believe you have a package for me – (and what’s your first name Mr. Buchanan) – I don’t know.

  • 32. Steve O  |  June 4, 2007 at 8:24 pm

Fabio i cant believe what i just heard you cut your locks it took you so long to get that flipped out girly look that i love so much. I was such a hardcore fan of yours that i dont know if i can handle the tremendous change, Scotty G is my new hero. Go Scotty G.

  • 33. Scotty G  |  June 5, 2007 at 8:09 am

Thanks for the support Steve O. I think you’ll find Team Scotty G to be much more successful then the Team Fabio camp. Here at Team Scotty G, we spend less time ranting and primping over our hair and focus on finishing the task at hand.

  • 34. Peter T Webb  |  June 7, 2007 at 9:09 am

Well in response to Steve O, I’ve decided instead to let my golden mane grow thicker and lusher than ever before, and like Samson, It’s working like a charm, just ask Scotty G after I embarrassed him in the match of tennis he invited me to play on Tuesday. You keep trying, Scotty, maybe next time!

  • 35. Scotty G  |  June 12, 2007 at 8:28 am

Embarrassed I think not. Witnesses can attest to why there is a fence surrounding the courts. It appears that Samson’s strength in his hair, mixed with the steroids he’s been taking, have sent his anger and rage out of control. Now I know it would be hard to understand, given his reputable squash etiquette, but I felt obligated to let him win.

  • 36. Peter Webb  |  November 2, 2007 at 2:58 pm

    Greetings,
I haven’t written on this website for some time so first of all I’d like to say hello to everyone. I’m taking the time today to address a very important matter of concern to many squash players. That is the absence of both myself and Mike Buchanan from the circuit this season. Now it’s dissappointing to everyone, myself included, but no one is more heart broken than Scott Gamble. Now I’m had my problems with Scott in the past, we all have, but behind the exterior lies a sensitive man. I was talking to Scott on the phone yesterday and if you ask me he misses us. I think he’s starting to realize that the villanous persona he boasts is lost without the stories heros. What is Lex Luthor with Superman, the Joker without Batman. If I was to make an assessment of Scott’s game, he’s lost his mojo, and frankly I don’t know if he’ll ever have it again.

  • 37. Scotty G  |  November 5, 2007 at 9:18 am

As much as it pains me to admit it…he is right. Austin Powers is nothing without Goldmember. Derek may be pushing limits with taunting polls and ancient game stats but he does not pose a risk just yet of overtaking SquashPEI’s Man of the Year.
Speaking of mojo…Peter gave his to his girlfriend which explains his absence this season. You see one never knows what goes on behind closed doors so allow myself to fill ya’ll in. She is in Edmonton and told him “Peter get out here for the winter” to which Peter replied “Yes Dear.” Now I’m not saying it’s a bad thing because as Peter stated, we chatted the other day and even though he predicted pumpkin sales to peek around December, I couldn’t help but pickup on the excitement in his voice when he told me what shiny object he was giving her for Christmas.

  • 38. The Young and the Restless  |  November 7, 2007 at 9:12 am

All these links are sure annoying but maybe the lasik eye surgery was doing some research and was targeting our legends division competitors. And no Derek, there’s no such thing as a rookie when it’s a legends division.

The power is on and the tournament is a go.

  • 57. Ashley Gallant  |  April 11, 2008 at 12:01 pm

I am interested in the tournament that MAY happen in Moncton. If this is a go ahead would it be possible for a notice to be sent out to squashpei members to let us know of registration deadlines and fees and such…..
I don’t even know if this is the right place to write this but if someone reds this and knows what is going on please pass the word along to me.
    Thanks,
    Ashley Gallant

Also I am always looking to pick up games at the courts at UPEI. I play all the time there and often by myself (sad I know) but am willing to play anyone at any level, email me if interested.

  • 58. Manny B  |  April 14, 2008 at 9:19 pm

Hello from the tropical island of Newfoundland. I figured I’d get around to sending in a message to say hello to all the folks back at SquashPEI.

It’s hard to believe it’s been two months (yup, two months ago today I was pulling out of Charlottetown with the kids for the last time) since we left.

Things here have been going well. All settled in to the new job, new house, etc etc. I’ve even managed to get out and play a little bit of squash recently. Haven’t had a chance to check out any of the tournaments over here yet (don’t think they get as big a draw as we would get in PEI) but I have managed to find a couple of “B” players to get some games in with.

Hope everyone over there is at the top of their game (isn’t PEI/Atlantic Open over there this week???). If any of you are ever on “The Rock” be sure to look me up.

    Manny

  • 71. Scotty G  |  January 12, 2009 at 12:55 pm

Way to go Squash PEI. Once again you have shown that you don’t have to be big to be great. Now perhaps I’m overstepping my position on the team, seeing as I’m not the self proclaimed team captain or the player voted assisstant captain but as our team’s veteren performer I felt the need to congratulate our organization for hosting a flawless event. In most cases, athletes will hear chatter about complaints before the coordinators do but there was nothing but positive praise from other players all weekend. I’d also like to congratulate Mikey B and Peter for their tremendous play over the weekend. It’s a great feeling to challenge the best from across the country especially when doing it along side your friends and so much support from friends and family courtside with us.

  • 72. The Captain  |  January 13, 2009 at 5:36 pm

Greetings Folks, I want to thank everyone that worked so hard to put on a great event and show all the mainlanders a good time. Thanks to everyone that came out and watched and cheered us all on. And special thanks to all my team mates, Scott, Mike, Lester, Travis, Steve, and Chris, We all played tremendous and put on some greats shows.

Scott and Mike, It was an honor serving as team captain, for the last couple of nationals, but the time has come for me to step aside and let Mike take the reigns. Mike, you played some tremendous squash this weekend, You rose to the occasion and pulled it out and every time it was big. It’s an inspiration to watch you play, man.

Thanks again to everyone, and hope to see you all at the Mill River tournament this year.

  • 73. THE INSIDER  |  January 16, 2009 at 11:26 am

Is Gamble the reigning champ passed his prime at 29?

As Mill River draws near all are anticipating a knock-out hard fought battle to the finals. To put things into context cunning veteran Scott Gamble has maintained a running tally of victories for nearly a decade. Rumor on the street is favouring the younger Mike Buchanan to come out on top. Buchanan has established himself this year as faster, flashier, more dapper, a Justin Timberlake to Gamble’s version of an aging Nick Carter, who maybe heard in the corridors singing his last hit song “Help Me”. It would be amiss if one did not acknowledge the possibility that JT could very well see himself being challenged by heart throb Fabio, aka Peter Webb whose showing last Friday speaks for itself.

Perhaps Gamble still has some surprises left, but his desire to remain on top may be short lived. Best get your advance tickets cause this year’s Mill River Open is going be a barn burner. Don’t miss the showdown of who may end up being sent out to pasture…

    washed up pop tarts!

We oft times fail to see what’s really before us because of obstructions.

Scottie G and Mikey B are obstructions. What we are failing to see is the effervescent ,exciting and ebullient Fabio aka Peter Webb.

He obviously proved himself last w/end @ the Nationals. His ability to have his opponent assume a plaid shirt… merino wool sock wearing…story telling… hillbilly lacks in ability is, well, staggering.

He left an opponent or two speechless. No manure or pasture here.

So, instead of eyeing up the competition of two 160 lb, bandana wearing, attention seeking, has-been, quasi squash “celebrities” …

…check out the unassuming, tall, blonde, wallflower Mister Peter Webb. Do not let his modelesque looks fool you. Nothing dumb about this blonde.

    Strike a pose Fabio.

    Just sayin.

No one can argue the fact that pretty boy “boy bands” are a thing of the past but after a bunch of Hobos picked up 3 awards recently at the PEI music awards, who to say there’s not a new fad on the brink. Chatter may be occurring that Scotty G may in fact be “washed up” but that’s something Peter T Webb has yet to be tagged with. Other issues with Fabio’s lack of ability to finish have proven to be overcome with the new rally point scoring raising the question of will he finally get the chance to pull it out with Mikey B? It’s an uneasing fact that despite some of Fabio’s best performances in the past he just can’t get it all NSYNC.

All Quiet on the Western Front…all this talk about boys bands and look alikes only overshadows the real question that is on everyone’s mind, who will be 2009 Mill River Open Men’s A Champion ? The Insider brings up an important point, as one can attest wiley veteran Scotty G has not made too many public appearances this year which questions his performance ability. Not too mention that pushing 3 decades he may have reached his peak.

So cute to see the crush that BoyBands has on Fabio. One can only assume that this person is definitely living in the past as when was the last time Fabio made the news? Not withstanding who can argue the valid points made in this synopsis? Peter is definitely a contender. An unassuming one, but definitely a player to keep your eyes on.

As for Mikey B, his time is coming and it may not be that far off. To quote The Captain on his performance at the Nationals, “ You rose to the occasion and pulled it out and every time it was big. It’s an inspiration to watch you play, man.”

This year’s pundits are predicting an upset. So best of luck Scotty G, but all told, his final sands of dominance at the Mill River Open are through the hourglass.

“I HAVE A DREAM” what a powerful statement when made by a man like Dr. King. Doesn`t seem to pack the same punch when shouted by Peter Webb in the halls of the old aquaplex or Michael Buchanan hollow rambilings “YES WE CAN”!! Mikey B seen where this catchy phrase worked for the president elect.

One can only ask if these statements are made on the rumors of Mill Rivers Scotty G backing out of the tournament, due to illness. Insiders are trying to get accurate medical information to confirm wether Scotty G is ill or running scared.

Is there an end to the Dynasty…. Who Knows… Hope Scott is feeling better, all hopes rest on his father to carry on the clan Gamble at Mill River for 2009. Hope Mikey& Pete play as well as they did at the Nationals.

Men’s A should have some fresh meat when Scotty Hamill propells himself into a new division.

    Well done!

I would like to echo the comments expressed yesterday at the conclusion of the 2009 Mill River Aquaplex Squash tournament. Carlos & company did a great job of hosting…the courts were “spotless” clean and the social & snack foods were plentiful. The setting of the Mill River tourney is second to none and that presents itself with large draws including many players from the mainland.

Many thanks as well to the tireless efforts of all those involved in organizing & executing a flawless weekend including Michelle, Lester, Greg, Shawn, and everyone else who has participated in bringing a successful tournament together. Great job!

For myself, it was a great weekend to meet new friends and a great way to spend a winter weekend with my family. This has resulted in 2 of my children expressing interest in playing regularly next year with the juniors.
So, thanks again for everyone’s hard work…. I would highly recommend this tournament to anyone.

    Robbie

Congrats to my “son” Mikey B. While I did not play favorites going into yesterday’s A final, as both my “boys” represented…to paraphase Mikey…finally. After years of A final battles with Scottie G( another son) I could not be happier for him.

Here, in Mill River we try to execute a first class tournament. I believe we succeeded. Thanks to Carlos and his gang, Lester and Michelle.

Shout out to Mary…winner of Womens A.

    Scott H

    * Oh, and I now have a new fav tune…thanks to Cam…Ride Gordie Ride!!!

one must wonder if the sound of grinding and gnashing of teeth in men`s A will abate with the arrival of the best men`s B could offer in the fresh meat department! Will he be like the old bull or maybe warhorse [informal veteran,old-timer,old reliable chestnut] lets hope he shows this tournament so no one goes back to Halifax full of chicken or just maybe it will be a vegitarian weekend!!

  • 82. Scotty G  |  April 8, 2009 at 3:50 pm

I have a guy at Mill River who is looking to sell a Dunlop Aerogel Pro GT racquet that he purchased at Sportchek and only used 5 or 6 times. They are $100 plus tax there and he’d be happy if he got $50. If your interested, let me know. Oh and congrats to that Mike guy who won the A. Maybe next year you’ll get a better finishing celebration move.

    BIG NEWS!!!

Just wanted everyone to know that on Saturday, June 27, Quincy finally beat Cam at the UPEI squash courts. ( 12 – 10 )

Cam’s comment: ” I wasn’t warmed up, she took me by surprise.”

  • 84. Scotty G  |  August 28, 2009 at 8:15 am

Any word on the tournament schedule yet? I know it’s early but Buchanan’s already talking smack and that’s not acceptable.

  • 85. Rumour Mill  |  August 31, 2009 at 12:47 pm

Has anybody heard the rumours floating down Mill River about Peter Webb?

  • 86. Fabio  |  September 15, 2009 at 2:18 pm

I feel like Gulliver amongst the Lilliputians. He too was a big guy and they all picked on him. No one is more aware than myself of the rumours going around, but I’d be more worried if there wasn’t rumours going around, it’s all part of the celebrity lifestyle.
