Buchanan’s Back But For How Long?

November 29, 2007

In the recently held UPEI Invitational Squash tournament, Mike Buchanan
(aka Mr. B) emerged as the winner over Lester Jinks (aka Lester) after a
hard fought 5 gamer.  The timing is coincidental I’m sure that he be
crowned the winner so close to his idol Justin Timberlake being crowned
as one of People Magazine’s Sexiest Men Alive list however, unfortunately
for Mr. B, his victory celebration was cut short and overshadowed with
controversy by remarks Buchanan made to the Squash PEI body following his
match.  Mr. Buchanan was classy and honourable in thanking tournament
organizers, fellow competitors, and his final opponent during his
acceptance speech but then he opened a hearing on himself after inviting
everyone in attendance to Mill River for the next tournament stating
that this is the year that fellow arch rival and former coach Scott
Gamble will terminate his reign as 10 year defending champion.
Investigators are working on this case and it is being viewed as a
possible case of “False Advertising” to which a full investigation is
being undertaken to consider the fact that Buchanan may be working with
the organizing committee of the tournament and is using this as a
marketing draw for the event.

In speaking with Mr. Gamble on the issue he had this to say “I’d be
lieing if I said that the comments didn’t surprise me.  Mikey B is a
class act and a thrill to compete against and to have him taint such a
respectable sport like this is nothing less than shocking.”  Gamble also
noted that although he’d love to extend his winning record on his home
court, he may consider sitting this one out to avoid any bad media and
distractions for his fellow companion.  ”Mike is fighting hard after his
early season injury, and I’d hate for this to set him back mentally”
said Gamble. “I don’t think the kid knows what kind of fuel he’s just
thrown on the fire” he added.  Mr. Buchanan was unavailable for comment
at the time of the story.

Now as we head into the Christmas season, both competitors along with
many others will intensify training efforts and try to focus on the game
ahead.  Both Gamble and Buchanan are anxiously awaiting the arrival and
opportunity to play/train with Peter T. Webb as he is scheduled to
appear on the home courts of Mill River (pending approval) in the coming
weeks after answering the call to the West.

Well Scott…….we gave you up for dead…….glad to hear of your pending resurrection…..although a Mr. B vs Mr. G final would be much anticipated, you and I may have to deal with some unfinished business first…….

I note that Mr. B spanked me 9-0, 9-0, 9-2. I am not exactly proud of that result, but I respectfully suggest that you could not possibly beat me that badly……hummm……care to place a wager?……or do you fear my “flaming mo” drop shot too much? I suggest a modest financial contribution to my retirement fund if you can not better Mr. B’s performance………

2 points in 3 games. Mo must have slept in.

It is a rather fascinating point of view The Journalist has, but I, have another point of view.
I was @ a Senior A hockey game last night and Mike Buchanan’s(aka Mr B) fellow arch rival and former coach, Scott Gamble was trading DNA with a player from the opposition. Yes, the “supposedly” meek and mild sportsman has another side to his personality. Before any of the fans knew what was happening, Gamble had the gloves off and apparently thought he was defending featherweight champion of West Prince as he was savage to teach his opponent a lesson in tact and tanacity.
As a fan of Senior A hockey, I have wonder if Gamble can continue that delicate balance between Tie Domi grit and Mike Buchanan finesse to effectively defend his reign as 10 year champion of the Mill River Open . After all, Gamble is player “senior” hockey which would be indicative that the once “golden child” is getting ripe with time.
    Time. Yes, time will tell.
There are a number of months left in the hockey season, more gloves to come off and a MIll River Open to be reclaimed.
Yes, indeed, timing is of utmost importance.

    Sporting News Highlights…

WP SQUASH REIGNING CHAMP TRADES IN RACQUET FOR BOXING GLOVES… (full story details below )

Alberton ….Who would have imagined Casumpec “Pretty Boy” would risk damage to his apprearance to ignite his team to defeat the Tornodoes in local action on home ice this week.

As for the “senior” comment make by a fan in the stands, that would certainly explain the lack of fibers on Scott’s scalp.

All I can say is that perhaps Fabio may need to extend his Christmas holidays….

  • 5. Scotty G  |  December 5, 2007 at 9:40 am

Fabio will more than likely cancel his trip home for the holidays this year but not due to the fact that he’s not allowed to come home but rather to a horrible flashback to Mill River 2004. You may recall that the last time I played hockey instead of squash, Peter T. Webb had to withdraw in the third game due to injury after his delicate pride was totally derailed following being run over by a freight train in the court. As for Buchanan…he was cute enough to call and confirm that I was unable to play on Monday night before he comitted to attending the ceremonious Men’s Night in Mill River. I think now he realizes he should have thought things out before he spoke at UPEI.

Well Well Well Scotty G i must say i am utterly shocked at the viscous rumors i’m hearing about the SENIOR hockey game. I did not realize the rough and tough game was apart of your game, now i’ll have to watch for the check into the boards when the match isnt going your way and your streak is fading away.
As i couldnt help but read Gamble saying ” I dont think the kid knows what kind of fuel he added to the fire”… I new exactly what i was doing you see this Mill River Tournament being my tenth year i find it very fitting that this be the year to win so I wanted to spark a fire to get Gamble in the squash court rather than lifting all those weights for the enforcer role in hockey i want no excuses when i do win.

  • 7. Scotty G  |  December 10, 2007 at 10:03 am

Fair enough Buchanan. No excuses! 10 years for you? It seems like just yesterday that you discovered the Men’s side of the draw. Maybe for your 10th anniversary they’ll let you play the whole tournament in Women’s A. I mean let’s face it you’ve come a long way in your game since your tournament debut in Women’s C. Now I’m not taking anything away from you there because I’m sure you would have won it too had they not enforced the drug test ruling.

  • 8. Mike Buchanan  |  December 11, 2007 at 12:36 am

Yes Scott that drug testing rule shocked me as well i mean you were coaching me in that tournament and you told me that the gatorade you mixed up was in fact gatorade but now i just realized you drugged the gatorade to try and hold me back from getting the Mill River Crown you WILL pay for that.

  • 9. West Prince Graphic  |  December 12, 2007 at 3:48 pm

(THIS JUST IN) Scott “Hands OF Stone” Gamble recently was called up to the Ultimate Fighting Championship Organization, but unfortunately for Scott he had to withdraw due to a broken nail he received while picking his nose.

  • 10. Steve O  |  December 13, 2007 at 10:30 pm

This is for my favorite PLAYER Fabio who just shot off out west without a trace some say maybe scared of the up coming PEI tournaments, others say he just wanted to start Webbs Vegetables Empire elsewhere as of right now we are just left wondering.

  • 11. Scotty G  |  December 19, 2007 at 4:23 pm

Mike, the only thing I’ll be paying for is the gas in the ambulance used as they cart you away after I steamroll you in my court. Now I’m not telling you this to intimidate you or to make you second guess yourself, I’m simply trying to snap you out of the recurring nightmare your trapped in where you lose another 5 gamer in Court 1. Now the other side of me thinks maybe you and Derek are teaming up to try to find the breaking limits of pressure for me. Let’s face it, to be putting up challenges to beat him worse than 27-2 and you falsely advertising a Gamble defeat, I hope we all make it out of the court safely.

Well here we are in the final week to register for Mill River and everybody is out fine tuning every shot in their repitoir. The big news story of the week is whether or not Scotty G will sign up to defend his title against the top seed Mikey B and after watching the two feel each other out last night it was obvious that Scotty G’s soft touch is in his hockey stick but nevertheless Mikey B is still lacking the confidence to do what it takes and it seemed he was reverting to some mind games in the court and perhaps holding back to give Scotty G some false confidence. Regardless of each players approach to this marquee matchup, I’m sure it will prove to be another exciting barn burner just one week from this Sunday.

  • 13. FortuneTeller  |  January 31, 2008 at 2:34 pm

Well, well, well – got my crystal ball all shined up and what do tell ~ it looks like a court burner in Mill River this weekend.
If ya have been following the poll on-line you can definitely see that the odds are definitely in Mikey B’s favour.

Yet, the vibes are strong that Scotty G does not want to relinquish his title.

Based on my psychic readings, and if i was a betting man,
for the Mill River Crown i would definitely put all my $ on
